Tailoring Communication Strategies to Local Contexts

Tailoring Communication Strategies to Local Contexts
In today’s globalized world, effective communication involves more than just translating words; it requires a deep understanding of local cultures, values, and traditions to ensure that messages resonate meaningfully with diverse audiences. Successful communication strategies take into account regional languages, customs, and societal norms, allowing for authentic connections and preventing misunderstandings that can arise from a one-size-fits-all approach.

Thabisile Phumo, Vice President and Head of Stakeholder Relations at Sibanye-Stillwater, will participate in the panel discussion ‘Regionality in PR – Tailoring Communication Strategies to Local Cultural Contexts’ on April 11, 2025 at 1:30 CET at the Davos Communications Summit, where she will share her wealth of knowledge on public relations.

What to Expect?

In her presentation ‘The role of culture in enhancing communication in Africa’, she will explore:
  • Culture as a key input in the communication mix – integrating cultural elements into communication strategies.
  • How cultural context can enhance the efficacy of communication –how understanding local traditions, languages, and norms allows communicators to tailor their messages in a way that increases engagement and comprehension.
  • Ways of decoding global messaging to be culturally inclusive and relevant - examine the importance of modifying global campaigns to reflect local beliefs, practices, and language.
